The Digital Tv Transition Is Only Six Weeks Away

The Digital Tv Transition Is Only Six Weeks Away

DTV (digital television) is a new television broadcast technology that creates super-sharp images. DTV can be broadcast in wide-screen format and Dolby Digital audio producing a lifelike picture and CD quality sound. DTV is currently being transmitted by all full power television stations across the Nation.

What are the benefits of DTV?

* Clearer pictures - DTV overcomes the static, ghost, and snow that is usually accompanied with poor reception on today's analog signal.
* Better sound - DTV can broadcast in Dolby Digital surround sound.
* More channels-DTV allows stations to multi-cast several programs at once. Nearly all PBS stations are offering multi-casting with their DTV transmissions.

What equipment do I need to get DTV?

In order to receive DTV you need a newer TV with a built-in DTV tuner or you will need to purchase a set top converter box*. Your current antenna should still work fine.

Where do I get a digital converter box*?

These can purchase through your local electronics store or discount store, or you can buy them online through a number of discount retailers. DTV antennas are also available through these retailers.

How much do they cost?

Digital converter boxes generally average from $40 and up. However, if you look hard enough, you can buy them for practically next to nothing. The Government is currently offering two $40 coupons for each applying household to help offset the cost of the DTV conversion. On February 17, 2009 all of the Nations television stations will discontinue transmitting their current analog signals and will be only broadcasting the DTV format. Some stations have already made the switch. If you rely on an antenna to receive your television programs or you have satellite but still use your antenna for local channels, YOU WILL BE AFFECTED!

Now is the time to get prepared. Many retailers are already feeling the crunch and are having a difficult time keeping DTV converter boxes* in stock. If you don't take action by February 17, 2009 you will turn on your TV and find nothing but static on all channels.
